Heron Cove is an unabashedly luxurious two-story Orcas Island cottage rental, designed (sculpted is rather more appropriate!) by renowned architect-artist James Hubbell. The round cottage itself is a destination site and has been featured in books and on television. Heron Cove features stained-glass windows, metal sculpture work, ceramic mosaics, and mixed-media artwork (all done by local craftsmen) that function as fireplaces, wall sconces, railings, and lights throughout this jewel-box of a cottage with heated floors.


The master bedroom suite waits upstairs with a Queen-sized bed, fireplace, entertainment system, and a stunning soaring bird stained-glass window. The master suite opens to a large balcony with an elevated view of the North Shore. The bathroom is outfitted with a cove-like shower and Jacuzzi tub, as well as a heated towel rack and bidet. Additional relaxation can be found in our shared “Sleepy Otter” sauna a few short paces away. Enjoy the amazing waterfront views of the Salish Sea, Patos Island and Sucia Island from this romantic cottage.


The downstairs boasts a skillfully crafted living room with a Queen-sized sleeper sofa, electric fireplace, and surround sound entertainment system with a convenient half-bath. Here the outside beauty of the islands is ushered right into the living room with floor-to-ceiling windows that make up the entire north wall, as well as occupying a larger portion of wall space to the west and the east. The result is a stunning panoramic view of water and wonder.

 

Our well-appointed Seal Point cottage accommodates up to eight with plenty of sleeping arrangements to choose from. The upstairs offers one bedroom with craftsman-made king-sized bed and bathroom. Downstairs includes two bedrooms, one with a king-sized bed and en suite. The other bedroom facing the water features two full-sized beds and a bath. You will find world-class art and rare wrought iron pieces throughout.

 

As you explore the cottage you’ll find the sleek galley-style kitchen where the dishwasher, ceramic top stove, full-sized fridge, microwave, coffee maker (and Salish Blend Dark Roast coffee), plus all pots, pans and utensils are provided. Enjoy the spacious living room that opens out onto the large upper level deck that’s complete with dining table and chairs, lounge, and gas barbecue. A bonus of the two-level unit is the lower level deck that’s outfitted with a secluded hot tub and rocker to take in the amazing vista. The cottage is also equipped with a warm wood-burning fireplace, big TV/VCR/DVD, sumptuous recliner chairs, and a washer and dryer for your convenience. Our waterfront Salmon Shoal is a stunning two-bedroom, one-bath cottage that surrounds you with privacy and serenity. It sets on almost an acre of waterfront and has the most expansive view of the North Shore, with Mt. Baker visible from the beach. Salmon and bears are the themes of the cottage.

Each bedroom features a Queen-sized bed with luxurious linens and creative décor. The cabin also includes a full bathroom, a fully-equipped kitchen with an amazing view and fantastic skylight, a romantic fireplace, a Queen-sized sleeper sofa, and washer and dryer. Though the views from the huge picture windows in the living room and dining space are spectacular, you’ll want to step outside onto the deck that runs the entire length of the house. Not only will you want to take in the views of Saturna Island, the Georgia Straits, as well as Patos, Sucia, and Matia islands, but you’ll want to enjoy the grill, patio furniture, and delightful foliage and flowers. You will also enjoy a stroll down to the water's edge or shared sauna for all guests to enjoy.

 

Salmon Shoal has yet another amenity which boaters will find extremely attractive. If you are planning a sailing vacation in the San Juan Islands, but would like a few nights on dry land, on-property sauna, elegant restaurants a mile away, and laundry facilities, Salmon Shoal can offer a welcome respite. A mooring buoy is located just off-shore where there’s walk-up access from your dinghy to Salmon Shoal. Have the best of both worlds: Your boat anchored just off the deck and the water waiting patiently for you after a leisurely breakfast on dry land. Top it off with your own cup of Salish Blend Dark Roast, freshly prepared in the cottage with the Grind & Brew coffee maker.

Please note that the Salmon Shoal cottage is the ground level of the building, with a staff member using the underground level with separate hidden entrance. Each level is completely private.

It is the Upper Level of a two-unit Black Forest style chalet nestled amid ancient cedars with a large private deck that wraps around an old-growth cedar that provides a leafy awning for lounging, eating, exercising, water watching and sunset viewing. Access to the large deck is a private entrance below, and above both from the living room and the skylight bedroom with a wall-sized mirror originally featured in the home of financier James B. Colgate (Colgate University), son of William Colgate who founded in 1806 what became the Colgate-Palmolive company. This one-bedroom escape has a large living room with stone fireplace, and offers the best of two words: tree-tops and water vistas. This cottage has a lower level tenant.

Sleepy Otter Sauna is nestled  at the heart of this sanctuary. It is free to all guests in hopes that we can soak out all the stresses and use it to rehab and recharge from our daily lives.
