All Aboard! How to use the WSF System.

Orcas Island is one of the most popular islands in the San Juan Islands, and for good reason. It's home to stunning scenery, charming villages, and plenty of outdoor activities. If you're planning a trip to Orcas Island, you'll need to take a ferry from Anacortes, Washington.

The Washington State Ferry System is the best way to get to Orcas Island. It's affordable, reliable, and scenic. You can either drive your car on the ferry or walk on without a motor vehicle.

Here's how to use the Washington State Ferry System to get to Orcas Island:

  1. Make a reservation. Reservations are required for vehicles on most sailings. You can make reservations up to two months, two weeks, or two days before the sailing. Reservations open at 7am in the morning.
  2. Plan your route. The ferry from Anacortes makes stops at Lopez, Shaw, Orcas, and Friday Harbor. You can choose to get off at any of these islands.
  3. Check the sailing schedule. There are many sailings throughout the day, so you can find one that fits your schedule.
  4. Arrive early. You need to arrive 30 to 45 minutes before the sailing to keep your reservations.
  5. Enjoy the ride! The 45-minute ferry ride is beautiful, full of magnificent views and wildlife.

Here are some additional tips for using the Washington State Ferry System:

  • If you're traveling with a large group, you may want to consider making a group reservation.
  • There is food and drink available on the ferries, but it's best to bring your own snacks and drinks if you're on a budget.
  • Some ferries may be canceled due to crew shortages or mechanical problems. It's always a good idea to check the ferry schedule before you go.

I hope this helps you plan your trip to Orcas Island!
