Moran State Park

Orcas Island Outdoor Activities

You can’t make a trip to Orcas Island without visiting Moran State Park. At 5,252 acres and with more than 30 miles of hiking trails, 11 miles of biking trails year-round and up to 25 miles seasonally (September 15 – May 15), and on-the water fun of kayaking and fishing for rainbow trout, Moran State Park is a wonderful destination for a day of fun and exploration during your stay at The Salish Seaside Escapes.

Some of the activities you can enjoy at Moran State Park:

  • Hiking
  • Horseback riding on six miles of horse trails
  • Biking
  • Swimming
  • Boating (non-motorized) and kayaking
  • Freshwater fishing (Cascade Lake is stocked with rainbow, cutthroat, and kokanee trout)
  • Wildlife viewing and bird watching

Of course, one of the biggest draws to Moran State Park is Mount Constitution, the tallest point in the San Juan Islands at 2,409 feet above sea level. Hike, bike, or drive your way to the top for an impressive view; which on a clear day, lets you take in the breathtaking sight of all the surrounding islands, Mount Rainier, Mount Baker, the Cascade Mountain Range, and the Olympic Mountain Range.

You can purchase your day pass to the Park through an automated pay system or buy the annual Discover Pass. For fishing, a recreational license through the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is required and can be purchased online.
